Damien Bonaire is not merely the antique dealer to the jet set but considered one of them. The last member of a quiet but well-regarded family, he was born in the French Canton of Switzerland but lived abroad for many years before returning to Europe to open an antique business. Charming and debonair, he is at ease in high society, yet can make the average woman feel like a princess. Yet despite his cultured manner, he is also physically imposing and a good sharpshooter due to his training as a reservist in the Swiss Army.
At least that's what the public believes. In reality, "Damien Bonaire" is a meticulously crafted creation of Francois Devereaux, a former French agent who embezzled money, faked his own death and had plastic surgery to change his face. Damien went into business with Basil St. James, the former smuggler Archie Pembleton. Unlike Basil, Damien eventually became bored with retirement and began accepting freelance assassination and confiscation jobs, though the latter are usually done to "acquire" something for a client with Damien pretending to be the middle man. Basil acts as his private logistician while urging Damien to retire for good. Not quite two years ago, Damien became involved with runway model Whitney Blaze, who he accidentally discovered is also an assassin who operates under a variety of aliases and code names. Damien can't decide how to tell her he's in the business, too, so he's been playing a cat-and-mouse game hinting at it while hoping that they don't cross paths during a mission.
